In response to ‘Eco-systemic models of life: or nature as a system’ and ‘Inspire or communicate a specific emotion’, we created an underwater world to inspire thinkings about gender.
It is a genderless utopian underwater world of sea slugs and sea angels. All creatures and plants in the scene are hermaphroditic or genderless. Made through Unity AR Foundation and ARKit.
The users can see a naturally formed otherworldly garden, and the scene is built with organic forms. The curves and spirals of morphological alien plants are full of a sense of flow, and the use of soft colours creates a surreal and dreamy effect. The character design adopts sea angels as the main body and adds some features of hermaphroditic creatures(sea slugs, coral and starfish correspond to blue, purple, and pink characters) to have a cute appearance and fairy tale dreamy visual style.
Inspired by the habits of sea slug edible seaweed. There are three juvenile sea angels in the scenario, and players need to find and pick seaweed to feed them to help them evolve into genderless humanoids. During this process the player interacts with the sea angels, allowing the player to reflect on the binary nature of gender and provide them with psychological healing. We used AI to generate healing music for the game's soundtrack.
